BDO '06: Iggy Pop and The Stooges
Well tomorrow is the last stop on the Big Day Out tour (and the one I will be attending) so it's about time I posted something from Iggy Pop and The Stooges. These guys are true rock royalty and it is going to be great seeing not just Iggy himself but the Asheton brothers as well. From garage rock to punk to heavy metal these guys have influenced many musical movements and too many bands to mention. I feel very sorry for The Mars Volta having to play against these guys, heck I'd feel sorry for anyone who had to.
The Stooges - I Wanna Be Your Dog
Iggy Pop & The Stooges - Search and Destroy
Iggy Pop - Skull Ring
'I Wanna Be Your Dog' is from The Stooges first self-titled album, 'Search and Destroy' is from 1973's 'Raw Power', and 'Skull Ring' see's the Asheton brothers (besides Iggy the only surviving members of the original Stooges) rejoin Iggy on his 2003 album same name. Of course you can also get all these tracks on the newly release Iggy Pop anthology 'A Million in Prizes' which does quite a good job of showcasing his career so far.
2 Many DJs - No Fun/Push It
While Iggy may be the king of this years Big Day Out it's 2 Many DJs who are finishing off the show so I thought I'd chuck this little section of 'As Heard on Radio Soulwax Pt. 2' up. This great mash up of The Stooges 'No Fun' with Salt n Pepa's 'Push It' is just a whole lot of fun so enjoy it! 'As Heard on Radio Soulwax Pt. 2' is put out by the wonderful PIAS Recordings and you buy it over here!

Seminal proto-punks of the U.S west coast during the 70's and 80’s.
Welcome to Siamese Dogs Records! Home of The Godfathers of Punk and out of control Rock & Roll!
GODFATHERS OF L A PUNK
A collection of rare tracks from the early days of the L A punk rock movement originally released on PHILIPPE MOGANE & JAMES WILLIAMSON (STOOGES)’s Siamese Records. Includes the original version of “I Got A Right/Gimme Some Skin” by The STOOGES and "We Got The Neutron Bomb" by THE CONTROLLERS, "Beat Her With A Rake" by THE WEASELS, a cover of "Hound Dog" by the ATTITUDE (with LITTLE RICHARD guesting on piano), as well as more tracks from IGGY & THE STOOGES, NU AMERICANS, MAX LAZER, and more.

If you think punk rock started in England, well, you're dead wrong! Punk had its roots with bands such as MC5 / Iggy & the Stooges, etc. These bands would later define an entire generation. Yes, punk rock begun in America. And if The Stooges, The Ramones and The Heartbreakers (Johnny Thunders band) didn't tour England during the 70s there would mostly likely be no British punk as we know it. This compilation assembled by Philippe Mogane documents the seminal proto-punks of the U.S west coast during the late 1960's, 70's, and early 80's, with bands ranging from the obvious [The Stooges, The Weasels, The Controllers], to the obscure [Max Lazer Band, The Attitude, Nu Americans], all dignity flattened and remastered for your modern convenience. And it's definitely a worthwhile addition to anyone's musical collection.
